The week of May 2 - 6 was a memorable one - not because AP exams started, but because it was the week of DECA’s 2014 International Career Development Conference! 17,000 DECA members from all over the world gathered in Atlanta, Georgia, INCLUDING 150 Nevada DECA members. The Opening Ceremony was held in the famous Georgia Dome - where native Atlanteans often watch their beloved Atlanta Falcons play football - and provided ample opportunity for everybody to trade state memorabilia with Bastille blasting in the background! During the famed Parade of Flags, our State President Valerie Cana represented Nevada and waved our flag high and true!
The competitive events weren’t the only interesting activities DECA Inc. provided during the conference; Atlanta featured attractions such as the Coca-Cola Factory Tour, the DECA Day at Six Flags and the Georgia Aquarium! DECA even hosted a Corbin Easton and Brett Eldridge concert with a FIDM fashion show where country music fans and young fashion connoisseurs alike were able to enjoy their evening. We would also like to extend an apology to the CVS in downtown Atlanta - sorry (or you're welcome?) for depleting your entire stock of supplies!
Your State Officer Team had a great time at ICDC attending the Empower Academy designed to train association officers, as well as caucusing with the executive office candidates. We had an amazing time bonding with YOU, the members, at the two state meetings. We hope you enjoyed the different activities!
Nevada DECA did an especially amazing job this year competing and representing Nevada. We would like to give a special shout-out to those who placed in the ICDC competition:
Ryan Lim, from Clark High School, placed Top Ten in Hotel & Lodging Management; and Maya Gupta from the Davidson Academy also placed Top Ten in Principles of Business Management. Anton Sorkin, from Advanced Technologies Academy, won a testing medallion in his event, Automotive Services Marketing.
Also noteworthy are two outstanding DECA members from West Career and Technical Academy! Alexandra Penano won the Marriot Foundation ICDC scholarship, and Alyssa Nikoley did an amazing job serving on the Live@tlanta social media team. In addition, their advisor Mr. Snehal Bhakta received a scholarship from PepsiCo.
This year’s ICDC was incredible, and we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. We can’t wait to see you at ICDC 2015 in Orlando, Florida!
