A Standing Ovation for Membership VP Dafne Vargas!

On December 4, Nevada DECA Vice President of Membership Dafne Vargas represented the 200,000 members of DECA throughout the world when she addressed the over 4,200 career and technical educators at the 2010 ACTE Annual Convention and Career Tech Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada.

As the only student to formally address the entire general audience at the three-day national conference for the Association of Career and Technical Educators (ACTE), Vargas thanked the audience for their support of all career and technical education students and shared her personal story of how DECA has impacted her life.  At the conclusion of her remarks, Vargas received a standing ovation from the assembled delegation.

"You open doors for every student, no matter their age, ethnicity, background, gender, or lifestyle choices," Vargas told the educators in her remarks. "You look beyond all of those small details and see the student for their personalities and potential.  Career and technical educators offer students hope and purpose, and help them realize that there are people out there who truly believe they have the ability to be successful."

Vargas was asked by DECA Inc. to deliver the remarks on behalf of the organization.  She also joined the rest of the Nevada DECA State Officer Team and other Nevada CTSO state officers in greeting ACTE members as they entered general sessions, as well as representing DECA Inc. at their booth in the exhibit hall.
