Nevada DECA Celebrates Successful 2011 ICDC

Capping off a highly successful 50th anniversary year, over 200 Nevada DECA members descended on Orlando, Florida on April 29 - May 4, 2011 for the biggest event in the DECA year, the International Career Development Conference.  Those 200 members represent the largest ICDC delegation ever for Nevada DECA, and they made excellent use of their time by visiting theme parks, gaining valuable leadership skills, and earning recognition for their success in DECA's competitive events.

For its excellence in competition, Nevada DECA doubled the number of students who received recognition on stage over the previous year.  Seven students, including members from Southwest Career and Technical Academy, the Davidson Academy and Advanced Technologies Academy were awarded medals on-stage for their stellar performances.  Five of those seven members qualified for final competition, including the team of Hedad and Nguyen from Advanced Technologies Academy (Hospitality Team Decision Making), Christopher Huh from Davidson Academy (Principles of Business Administration and Management), and Josh Gray from Advanced Technologies Academy (Fashion Merchandising Promotion Plan). The fifth finalist, Stephan Kim from Davidson Academy, was even recognized for being in the overall Top Ten for his performance in the Principles of Finance event.

The rest of the week was full of trips to Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Cocoa Beach and many more in between rounds of intense competition and exciting leadership development in DECA’s leadership academies.  Nevada DECA wishes to congratulate its members and advisors for an outstanding 50th anniversary year that saw our association expand its network more than ever before.  We look forward to aspiring higher to even greater accomplishments in 2011-2012!
