Nevada DECA SCDC Recap

The annual Nevada DECA State Career Development Conference was held at the Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel and Casino on February 8th-10th. With over 900 students in attendance, Nevada held its largest conference since DECA history! During the three days, all of the members spent their days participating in career-based competition, attending inspirational workshops, meeting state officer candidates, and networking with members from other chapters.

Every year, Nevada DECA provides the members with new and exciting workshops that focus on shaping members into leaders, creating relationships with new individuals, and so much more! The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) was just one of the many groups that delivered amazing workshops throughout the conference. In addition to these exhilarating workshops, Nevada DECA, in collaboration with the UNLV Collegiate DECA members, introduced a new session called “Shark Tank” to showcase the exciting entrepreneurial ideas of many students. After all of the stressing and worrying, the members were able to relieve themselves in the Leadership Village, where the members enjoyed the use of entertainment by dancing, playing board games, and challenging themselves to an exciting trivia competition.

While members were presenting role-plays and studying for their cluster exams, 13 members took on the challenge to run for the Nevada DECA State officer positions. Along with the announcement of the new state officer team, the top competitors were recognized at the Closing Session. The top three places qualified to attend the International Career and Development Conference in Orlando, Florida. This year’s SCDC was a remarkable experience and definitely, a conference to remember. In the years to come, Nevada DECA will continue to inspire, lead, and achieve!
