Rep. Joe Heck Visits Southwest CTA DECA!
In December, Southwest CTA had the privilege of meeting with Nevada’s very own Congressman Joe Heck! Congressman Heck received a presentation from their officers to help him learn a little more about DECA. Given Southwest CTA’s CTE background, the students there also got the opportunity to talk with Congressman Heck about career and technical education in general.
Since the State Officers’ last meeting in Washington DC with Representative Heck, they were able to keep in touch with him and were able to schedule a visit for him to experience DECA in a more personal way. Along with the Southwest CTA chapter officers, your State President, Valerie Caña, and Vice President of Southern Nevada, Rebecca Live, were honored to have the opportunity to discuss with him what DECA offers to students, particularly here in Nevada. Overall, the meeting went extremely well, and they all were all able to discuss a variety of things that are an integral part of our DECA environment. From the reasons students get involved with us to where DECA can take you, there was plenty that the students and Congressman Heck were able to talk about. After a successful meeting he received a tour of the school, taking the opportunity to examine other associations Southwest CTA has to offer.
Congressman Heck was quite impressed with the presentation, and was pleased to see the enthusiasm and dedication they all put forth with our organization. He eagerly encouraged everyone there to keep in touch with him and is now a much stronger supporter of our organization.
Way to go Southwest CTA DECA! Together, our greatness shines each and every day!
